JAN DILS: What the veteran needs to file a veteran's disability claim, they have to have served in the, in the military.

JAN DILS: They have to have a service connected disability or believe that their injury or disability occurred while in the military.
[GRAPHIC: What is social security disability?]
JAN DILS: When someone applies for social security disability, there's two forms of disability that Social Security looks at. One is SSDI, social security disability income, and the other one is SSI, supplemental security income. You have to be disabled to be eligible for either one of those. Under social security disability income, that's where someone pays into the process.

JAN DILS: Instead of waiting for retirement, they get it back when they need it and when they're disabled. Supplemental security income is if somebody hasn't paid enough into the system, or not at all.
