Jan Dils and her firm are experienced in all forms of Social Security and Disability benefits, Veteran’s Benefits and Personal Injury cases.
Jan Dils graduated from Marietta College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in both Marketing and Economics. She then went on to receive her Masters in Business Administration in 1991, and her law degree from West Virginia University in 1994. That same year, she was admitted to the West Virginia Bar, and began practicing in Parkersburg. The focal point of her practice has been helping clients with Social Security, Veteran’s Benefits and Personal Injury Law. Dedication to providing a voice for those who are not always heard is the driving force behind Angie Thompson and her work as an Attorney for Jan Dils. After personally meeting with her clients, Angie works on preparing each claim, then represents her clients at hearings. Prior to joining the Jan Dils team, Angie finished her law degree and completed an internship with The Women’s Center and Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh.
Angie earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Westminster College in 2004. She went on to earn her Juris Doctorate from Duquesne Law School in 2008. Angie is also accredited within the Department of Veterans’ Administration, which gives her valuable experience, knowledge and insight into many areas of specific concern to veterans. More Info
Giving top priority to each and every client is one of the keys to Social Security attorney Gowan Moise’s success. He enjoys talking with his clients and getting to know them, and says that understanding their individual circumstances helps him put together the most effective case possible.
Before joining Jan Dils, Attorneys at Law, Gowan gained an impressive roster of experience in the areas of civil litigation, Social Security and Medicaid. Heather E. Vanhoose
Before returning to her home state of West Virginia, Heather gained a valuable mix of education and experience that make her such an important part of the Jan Dils team. She graduated from Hobart William Smith colleges (Geneva, New York) in 1999 with a double major in political science and environmental studies. She then attended Roger Williams University School of Law and graduated in 2002. Upon graduation from law school, Heather moved to Washington D.C. and was admitted to the District of Columbia Bar.
Not long after that, Heather moved home to West Virginia and practiced law for over four years with the not-for-profit firm Mountain State Justice. There, she focused on helping low income families with consumer protection issues. Heather joined the Jan Dils team in the summer of 2007 and is now focusing on Social Security and Veterans benefits. Get to know Personal Injury Attorney Kelly Guice. Kelly comes to our firm with a wealth of experience. Kelly has a strong civil litigation background and has tried over 50 cases to verdict. Prior to joining our team, she specialized in the areas of products liability and mass and toxic torts; however, her experience with personal injury claims of many types is diverse. Kelly provides legal services to clients throughout West Virginia and Ohio. She is a native of Parkersburg and has strong ties and active commitments to the community. Meredith O. Johnstone
With a background that includes representation of Social Security Disability claimants and plaintiffs in personal injury cases, Social Security Attorney/Claimant Representative Meredith Johnstone brings a unique perspective to her role with the Jan Dils team.
When it comes to her success, attorney Tonya Hirsch values her clients’ experience as much as her own. She says that one of the things she enjoys the most about being part of the Jan Dils team is learning about the unique life experiences of each client. Before joining Jan Dils, Attorneys at Law in July 2012, Tonya worked in Operations Management for 12 years before attending law school at the University of Dayton.
She cites preparation as one of the keys to her success, and it shows in her thorough preparation of each and every case she handles. Tonya spends hours going through medical records to build the strongest argument for every client, ensuring that she is ready to tackle even the most difficult questions or circumstances. When she’s not in the office, Tonya can be found spending time with her daughter Alexandra, as well as family and friends. From his former position as a disability adjudicator for DDS, social security attorney Kevin Walker brings valuable knowledge of the disability process to his current role with the Jan Dils team. He understands what his clients are going through as they fight to obtain their benefits, and helps each person he works with by taking the time to fully explain each step. Kevin cites the positive working atmosphere and his co-workers’ genuine desire to help others as the thing he enjoys most about his new team.
Before embarking on his career, Kevin earned his B.A. in History from Asbury University in 2004 where he graduated Cum Laude. He then went on to earn a Commonwealth Scholarship and receive his J.D. from Brandeis School of Law at the University of Louisville in 2011. When he’s not busy helping his clients succeed in obtaining their benefits, Kevin enjoys watching spots and spending time with his wife, Janelle, their son Jackson, and daughter Lily-Rose.More Info
Harold K. Carpenter
By applying his written advocacy skills, Harold Carpenter, or “H.K.”, is able to bring together an entire case into a written brief that best demonstrates each client’s impairments. Since joining the Jan Dils team in May, 2012, this skill has served both H.K. and his clients very well. In addition to the hours he spends meticulously preparing each case, H.K. enjoys getting to know the clients he works with, as well as adding to the teamwork and “can do” attitude that the Jan Dils team has become known for.
After majoring in Psychology, with minors in Sociology, Philosophy and Political Science at WVU, H.K. earned his law degree from WVU as well. This explains why he has become such an avid WVU fan. In fact, he enjoys almost all sports, particularly the Pittsburgh Penguins, and the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals, as well as spending time with his fiancé.More Info
As a former Prosecutor, attorney Megan Fuller knows how to build the strongest possible case and see it through. That’s exactly what she is now doing for clients who choose the Charlotte offices of Jan Dils, Attorneys at Law to represent them in fighting for the Veterans benefits they deserve.
After earning a B.A. in Political Science from Rhodes College and completing law school at the University of Memphis School of Law, Megan fought for victims of domestic violence and animal abuse as a Prosecutor in York County, SC.
When asked what she enjoys most about working with her clients, Megan says she feels grateful to hear their stories of service to our country, and to help them win the benefits they deserve. When asked what she enjoys most about working with the Jan Dils team, she explains that her coworkers are genuinely good people who are dedicated to helping those same clients.
When Megan isn’t helping the brave men and women who fought for our freedom, she serves on the Childress Klein YMCA Board of Managers. She’s also actively involved in Make-A-Wish of Central and Northern Carolina, completing the Trailblaze Challenge for the past two years, and started a sandwich-making event for area homeless at a local Charlotte brewery. She enjoys reading, staying active, and spending time with friends and dogs, too.

Michelle “Cheli” Hunt
Practicing law is a second career for Cheli, who previously worked as an educator, coach, and professional development coordinator and as the project director for multiple federal educational technology grants in North Carolina. Cheli joined the Jan Dils team in February 2012 and within months transitioned into the lead appellate brief writer for the firm. Her skills as a former teacher also have benefited the firm well as she developed the attorney mentor-mentee training and professional development programs and continues to provide training sessions to attorneys and staff.More Info
Attorney Miles Cary has built an incredibly successful career on helping others. But his dedication to the members of our community does not stop when he leaves the office. In fact, he’s often just getting started.
Raised on Charleston, West Virginia’s West Side, Miles graduated from Capital High School in 1997. He went on to attend West Virginia State University, where he was elected Freshman Class President, Sophomore Class President, Mr. West Virginia State, and Student Body President. He was also awarded the National Outstanding College Brother of the Year from Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. After graduating from WVSU Summa Cum Laude, he received his J.D. from West Virginia University College of Law, where he was President of the Student Bar Association.
After graduation, Miles worked extensively in the fields of Social Security and Veterans benefits law, and also proudly served his country for four years, as Platoon Leader- 19th AG Company, Seoul, South Korea, and then as Staff Officer- 82D Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
Currently involved with numerous service organizations that reduce crime, prison recidivism, and school truancy in West Virginia, Miles is also the Vice President of the Board of Directors of Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Central West Virginia. He is a volunteer at the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club in Charleston, and part of the West Side Neighborhood Association. He has served as Vice President of the Board of Directors of West Side Main Street Project, an organization that focuses on the economic development and the revitalization of the West Side of Charleston, where he grew up. He is also a steering committee member of the Charleston Drug Market Intervention Project.
